Affectionately known as the ‘Quarry Casuals’, our Congregational Evensong Choir sings at all Evensong services (usually two or three services per month) apart from those on the first Sunday of the month, which are full Choral Evensong services sung by the regular choir.
The choir consists of a pool of singers, who sign up on a monthly basis for those services for which they are available. We have a range of singers, some of whom sing every service, and others of whom sing only occasionally.
This is not a rehearsing choir – there is a short run-through only of the unaccompanied introit – therefore singers are expected either to be good sight-readers, or to have practised the music beforehand (copies are available in advance from the conductor).
For the rest of the service (Ferial responses, chanted canticles, said psalm, and hymns) the choir is joined by the congregation.
