February 2009

Sermon preached by the Rev Tim Stead on Sunday 22nd February 2009

This, then, is the last in our series of sermons on the five bullet points of our proposed vision statement.

We have covered a huge variety of aspects of church life and mission:

-          our spirituality and worship

-          our intellectual tradition

-          the sort of community we seek to build: inclusive and diverse

-          our relationship with the local community

And, now, today, our relationship with the wider world.

Sermon preached by the Rev David Saville on Sunday  15th February:

Today we continue our series on the Vision Statement which we believe the Lord has given us as members of Holy Trinity to guide us in our distinctive life and work for Him.

Here is the fourth bullet point of the statement:

“We aim to be a community which follows the way of Christ by:

4.     being fully involved in and serving the needs of our local community”.  (It’s printed on today’s notice sheet)

As the document on our development plan explains, this is part of our Mission and Outreach, which includes Global justice and peace (which Tim will consider next week because it’s our 5th bullet point) and also local involvement in our community - today’s theme

Sermon preached by the Rev David Owen on Sunday 8th February:

A few weeks ago when Tim, Hugh, David Saville and myself met to discuss the present course of sermons, Tim gave us a choice of subjects. I chose “celebrating diversity”, a subject close to my heart, but also because in retirement I have come to value and welcome the diversity and cosmopolitan feel of both Headington as well as Oxford itself. You have only to sit on a No. 7 or No. 8 bus into town to see what I mean. You often hear many strange languages as well as English!
